Riot Archive

In 2007 I was seventeen years-old and a part of northern Germany’s Anti-facist movement. Not yet old enough to attend parties; being politically active, trying to stop nazis from marching, and running away from the police became my weekend routine. The early 2000’s was a time when the majority of the protests I attended in and around Hamburg, ended in riots. We knew it was wrong to destroy someones property but, the anarchistic celebrations were addictive. We loved the cocktails of feelings that came up with every protest. We were young and wanted to set the world on fire. Taking photos of it was my way of rebellion, delivering portraits of right wing activists to my local ANTIFA groups and create “riot porn”. It was my try to freeze the moment and emotions that occurred when protests got tense. Throwing bottles, burning containers - the scenes in Hamburg are showing riots during ANTIFA demonstrations from 2007 to 2011. But the following years my focus shifted on more diverse and creative forms of civil disobedience. Currently I mostly explore protest, taking place in and around Berlin to capture rave culture going political.
