  • Miream Salameh, an artist and activist, found her voice amid the tumultuous Syrian revolution. Participating in one of the first magazines in Syrian history that dared to question the dictatorship of Al-Assad, she faced unimaginable threats of death, torture, and rape from Al-Assad's forces. Forced to flee the country with her family, Miream lost not only her home but also memories and the majority of her art overnight. Rebuilding piece by piece in Lebanon, the family eventually relocated to Australia in 2013. Since this transformative journey, Miream has channeled her sensitivities into capabilities. Despite the distance, she remains connected with friends still in Syria, who share poignant photographs depicting their day-to-day reality. Inspired by these images, Miream paints scenes of resilience and suffering from her homeland. Her art amplifies the unheard voices and ensures that they are never forgotten.
