My name is Rebecca Rütten. I was born in Cologne, Germany on the 20th of June in 1991 and started to focus full-time on Art and Design in 2011, when I began my BA in Communication Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. During my exchange Semester in 2013 at the the California State University Long Beach, I became enamored with the eroticism, presentation and charisma of paintings from the Renaissance Period. Here, I got the inspiration for “Contemporary Pieces”. In 2014 Contemporary Pieces was released and exhibited at Cafe Karrusell in Hamburg and was featured in several international blogs like IGNANT and CNN and published in magazines such as We Demain and Das Philosophie Magazin. To gain more knowledge and a deeper understanding of the creative film industry, I interned from September to December 2014 at 1staveMachine in New York. After an amazing time in New York I moved on to liv for 3 months on an Island to work on my Book „Never – Never Land„. My first photography book discusses the romantic idea of backpacking in developing countries via an gonzo style experiment. The Book (now sold out) was self-published with a limited edition of 50, was featured by VICE and on show at the bookstore of the House of Photography, Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. To disconnect from my comfort Zone and gain new perspectives I relocated to Australia and South East Asia in early 2016. After the experience of living abroad and out of bags for over a year, I decided it’s time to go „home“ and moved back to Germany. In May 2017 Interned at the photography department of VICE Magazine in Berlin and got my base in Berlin since. Along with my personal projects, I work as a freelance photographer on internationally commission projects in Journalism, Editorial, Advertising, Food, Fashion and Portrait.
